Skyjack supports United’s veterans programme

Skyjack has joined United Rentals, Service to Employment Programme which helps military veterans throughout the United States move from active duty to careers as service engineers.

The national programme provides potential technicians with a month long training course, followed by on-the-job training, and eventual job placement at a United Rentals location. Skyjack is providing specific training on its products during the course.

United Rentals service training manager Stephen Howe said: "Skyjack units are some of the most popular in our rental fleet, and it is very beneficial to have them provide training up front. This programme is a win-win for everyone involved. It helps us recruit people with technical skills and discipline, it helps Skyjack provide better technical support and it provides veterans with career opportunities.”

The unemployment rate among recent veterans is three percent higher than the national average, United Rentals has employed 86 veterans through the programme, since its start in 2013. Skyjack has already provided three sessions of two to three days of training on its booms and scissor lifts.

Another Skyjack training session begins

Skyjack service manager Dan Woodruff added: “It is very beneficial to provide training to these veterans before they even begin working with the machines. Not only are we helping them, but we are also benefiting through product familiarity. They already have immense technical training on helicopters and military vehicles. With a little assistance from us, they can easily transfer that knowledge to our machines”.
