Team Haulotte drop out

The only powered access team competing in this years Lisbon-Dakar rally, Haulotte, was forced to abandon its attempt earlier this week, when the pick up driven by Miguel Prieto and Fédérico Montes crashed into a sand dune during stage four, between Er Rachida and Ouarzazate in Morroco.

The other Haulotte vehicle in the race, the Mercedes Unimog driven by Sirioz Sainz and Mikel Prieto, stopped to help, but to no avail. Both are now out of the competition.

This is the second year in the Dakar for Haulotte and the second time that the team has failed, but then that is the Dakar. It is a very tough challenge just to reach the finish.

Our commiserations go out to all those who played a part in launching the adventure.. Maybe 2007 will be third time lucky?

While the team did not finish, it should be applauded for taking part and flying the flag for the access industry.

For those who are interested, you can follow the Dakar in great detail on the Haulotte website, there is a link to Haulotte from our access and lifting directory. Volkswagen are currently monopolising the three top positions.
