Allison celebrates centennial

US automatic transmissions and hybrid propulsion systems manufacturer Allison Transmission is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year with a variety of events and activities.

In 1915, James Allison, the co-founder of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and part owner of several racing teams, established a precision machine shop to support his racing endeavours. Today the company has approximately 1,400 dealer and distributor locations, employing more than 2,700 people throughout 80 countries. Its products are also specified by more than 300 of the world’s leading vehicle manufacturers.

To celebrate the centennial the company will install an Indiana State Historical Marker at James Allison’s original facility on Main Street in Speedway and host a special celebration event for employees. It will also sponsor a variety of community activities, including the building of a house for a family in need and awarding 100 scholarships for local college students.
