Crane off road

An All Terrain crane ploughed int the verge of a rural road in Suffolk, UK, yesterday and stuck, causing significant traffic disruption yesterday.

The incident occurred early yesterday morning on the A1088 road to the east of Ixworth, when a three axle Grove crane owned by Peterborough Cranes strayed onto the verge of the narrow road, made softer than usual by recent heavy rains. As a result it ploughed through the verge and started to sink and slip towards the ditch.

We understand that the crane was eventually rescued yesterday with no one hurt and no permanent damage done. This incident serves as a reminder in the UK and parts of the USA that the recent heavy rains over an extended period has left road verges softer than ever, and with crane and truck mounted platforms typically setting out from depots before light extra caution is required, especially on rural roads like this one.
