Lifts for freezing LNG plant

The Yamal Liquid Natural Gas plant in Sabetta, Northern Russia has taken delivery of eight new aerial work platforms.

All eight machines, six 60ft JLG E600JP articulated boom lifts and two 67ft PB S225-12ES scissor lifts are battery electric powered and were purchased through JLG distributor Vertex.

The 60ft JLG E600JP electric-hybrid boom


The JLG E600JP electric-hybrid boom has a working height of over 20 metres, with a short riser, two section telescopic boom and articulating rotating jib, platform capacity is 230kg unrestricted, while outreach is almost 14 metres. The unit can be two or four wheel drive, features an oscillating axle and non-marking tires.

The PB S225-12ES heavy duty narrow aisle scissor lift has a working height of 22.5 metres, a platform capacity of 450kg and is just 1.22 metres wide.

The platforms have been involved in construction and installation work at new, Sabetta, port on the Gulf of Ob and the Kara Sea. Construction of the new plant and port began at the end of 2013 and will begin processing gas in 2017, it is expected to reach full capacity in 2021, bringing gas ashore from the South Tambeyskoye gas field. Temperatures this time of year typically range from minus 20 to minus 30 centigrade, and the land is covered in permafrost, although for three summer months the temperature does shift above zero.

The PB S225-12ES heavy duty narrow aisle scissor lift is capable of working inside and out


Dmitry Pankin of Vertex said: "We have already delivered around 30 units to Sabetta, with the majority of equipment supplied by JLG, since its products have proven themselves to be the most suitable for the climatic conditions. Operation at such low temperatures has its own peculiarities and the JLG machines are better able to cope with this, for example most manufacturers now use plastic hydraulic hoses, which often burst in the cold, while JLG use steel core hoses which are more.”
