Arborists guidance for work at height

IPAF has published new technical guidance/safety tips for the use of aerial work platforms for tree care applicaitons, in order to help ensure that operators work safely at height.

IPAF’s accident statistics indicates that one in five of all aerial work platform related fatalities involve tree care workers. And yet aerial lifts are one of the safest means of working at height, provided of course that operators are properly trained, risks are fully assessed and the equipment has been properly maintained and inspected and safe working practices are followed.

This latest IPAF technical guidance analyses some fatal incident reports, draws out the lessons learned, and provides safety tips for trained operators before, during and after tree care work. All in a concise downloadable format.

IPAF chief executive Tim Whiteman said: “Whether you are a professional tree worker or a hobby gardener, if you are using a platform to work at height, make sure that you complete formal recognised operator training for the correct use of this specialist equipment.”
