Another Wickens excels in access

Joe Wickens, 19, joined Nationwide Access Ltd, London West depot in November 2005, and learning that a vacancy was available at the CITB National Construction College in Bircham Newton, applied for it. His application was successful and he started his training in February 2006...

In spite of only attending the college for 10 weeks, effectively only half a year, he managed to win the award for top Plant mechanic- Year one. He also received a nomination award for the top Plant Mechanic – Access Platforms which is contested by all years.

When asked what his ambitions were Wickens replied, "I want my uncle’s job", his uncle is Roger Wickens, technical service manager at the Nationwide. Watch out Roger!

We asked Roger Wickens, for a comment, he said:
"Well by the time he is old enough I could well be retired! Joe is just the sort of ambitious young guy the industry needs to fill the vacant engineering slots. He is being mentored at the London depot by a well experienced engineer, Malcolm Fallow who has spent many years in the access industry and is keen to pass on his tricks of the trade”.

“Nationwide Access congratulates all the past and present apprentices for their achievements gained at CITB and wishes them every success for the future”.
