New products from GMG
GMG is to launch two new models at the Rental show next month in New Orleans.
They include a 15ft elevator type micro scissor lift, the 1530-ED and the company’s first mast boom the 10 metre working height VM26. GMG claims that the 1530 has the dimensions and weight of a typical 13ft scissor lift, and yet with 600mm more working height it will cover at least 60 percent of the work that is all too frequently carried out with heavier 19ft scissor lifts.
Platform capacity is 240kg, overall width just 30 inches or 762mm, while overall weight is 860kg including the standard roll out deck extension, making it suitable for most small elevators. Drive is via direct electric wheel motors helping prolong battery life and travel range, while making it a quiet smooth machine.

The VM26-J mast boom also boasts direct electric drive and features a heavy duty box section mast, fixed length jib with 120 degrees of articulation. Large diameter wheels and 40 percent gradeability help on imperfect ground conditions. Pothole protection is a simple passive system. While the company has not yet released the full specifications, it looks like a classic 10 metre model, with an overall width of just under a metre, and height of just under two metres, while outreach is likely to be just over three metres, and overall weight well under three tonnes.

Chief executive Jim Tolle said: “This new machine not only has a great specification but is the sexiest mast boom I have ever seen, of course this is my personal opinion and may be biased.”
Speaking of the launch and the company’s stand at the Rental show, he added: “You will never know what to expect or find at GMG, I can assure you this, you will learn of products that are taking the Access Industry to the next level.”
The new models will include a full two year warranty.
Vertikal Comment
These look like two very smart, well designed, well finished machines. GMG has always resisted confirming which manufacturer produces the machines that it sells under the GMG brand, stating that it is not tied to one specific company and that it tests and specifies the components used. The products so far have appeared to be built by Chinese manufacturer Mantall.
The mast boom is certainly a version of Mantall’s Imp100J, which it showed at Bauma China in 2016. It is without question a good machine and with 40 percent gradeability it looks like GMG has – true to its word – had stronger components installed, given that the Mantall Imp100J is just 23 percent.
GMG certainly has its work cut out to establish any significant market share in what is an increasingly competitive market place, particularly when it comes to slab scissor lifts and mast booms. The global market for aerial lifts is growing however and even a one percent market share now provides some substantial volume.
The rental show will be held in New Orleans on February 19th to the 21st, and as usual Vertikal.net will be there reporting on the new product launches.
