Wood floors and RT scissors
Rough Terrain aerial lifts and wood floors do not mix well, you might think this was obvious but…

A 4.5 tonne platform proves to be too much for the timber flooring
A reader has sent us series of photographs of a machine a GS-4069Bi compact scissor lift working at a music school in London where the operator has driven the machine over a timber floor, they were clearly aware that it posed an issue as plywood sheets have been used to try and spread the load. But then from what we can see strips of wood were used in between?? And guess what? The floor decides that the machine’s weight, at well over four and a half tonnes, is simply too much and gives way under the front wheels.

The unit came to rest on its outriggers
Thankfully the machine came to rest on the outrigger boxes, having dropped just a few centimetres or so. So, embarrassing rather than injurious.
A Death Wish? Certainly people have died after driving platforms on to wood floors or timber insets, including far lighter machines than this one. In this case it seems to have occurred with the platform stowed and given its overall width and low centre of gravity it was unlikely to have overturned, although the operator might have been shaken up.

Driving off the ply
Seems obvious that this would have happened but clearly not to everyone.
Have a safe weekend.
