The new JLG 1230ES will be built in Tonneins
The company gave visitors a glimpse of the new machine at the NECA convention and tradeshow for electrical contractors in Boston this week, but has confirmed that it intends to officially launch it at the ARA/Rental show in February and in Europe at Bauma in April.
Vertikal Comment
The decision to build this product in Tonneins is unexpected; the new lift uses many components from the ES scissor range which is currently built at the company’s McConnelsburg, USA and Belgian plants.
Tonneins, while a highly efficient plant, which has been improved significantly in the two and half years since it became part of JLG. However so far it has been dedicated to lower volume models, a large percentage of which are sold in France.
This move either signals a significant ramping up of the Tonneins plant in terms of volume, or JLG will, as is most likely, dual source this unit.
The only other conclusion you might draw from the decision is that the company does not have great expectations for it in terms of market share.
Post Script:
JLG has confirmed that the Tonneins plant will build the 1230ES on a new production line, with sufficient projected volume for it to match and exceed UpRight's shipments of the TM12, while challenging the global volume of the Genie Runabout.
