Senior management reshuffle at Kennards

Australia’s Kennards Hire has made several new senior management appointments, as part of a plan to ‘ramp up’ its operations across Australia and New Zealand.

David Schurman has been appointed general manager, Western Australia, having spent the past two years as an area manager of operations in Victoria. Prior to that, he was branch manager of Bowen Hills in Queensland. He has spent his entire career in or around the rental industry having started out with Home Depot in Phoenix, Arizona in 2003. He moved to Australia in 2007 and joined Kennards Hire in Queensland.

He takes over from Tony Symons who becomes general manager – product, after 15 years as general manager Western Australia and the Northern Territory, during which Expanding coverage in the region from three to 25 branches. He has been with Kennards since 2000 when he joined the company as a state business development manager, following more than four years with Crommelins Machinery firstly as state manger Queensland and then New South Wales.

Tony Symons



Matt Hardy the previous general manager product moves back to his role as general manager Queensland, following two and a half years in the product management role. He has spent his entire career with Kennards, having joined the company in 2000 to start up the company’s Western Australian operation, he remained as general manager until moving to South Australia in 2006.

Finally Gareth Vines, general manager, South Australia adds the Northern Territory to his responsibilities.

Speaking of his new appointment Schurman said: “It is a fantastic time to be moving into Western Australia. Our network here has enjoyed significant growth over the past few years. Our new Kalgoorlie Branch in the Goldfields-Esperance region opens later this month and we’ve just completed the acquisition of Choice Rentals, a lighting tower company, which will complement the larger projects we are partnering with here.”

Symons added: “Certainly the next big things to really appeal to our customers are sustainable equipment solutions such as rechargeable battery products, alternative energy sources like solar lighting towers and products that reduce environmental impacts. Smart assets will also be huge. With our EasyTRAK platform we can keep track of almost anything now and report back to our customers on where it is and how it’s being used. It’s a game changer for us.”
