Fatal lift incident in Melbourne

We have received a report that an incident involving a scissor lift in a suburb of Melbourne has resulted in a fatality.

The incident occurred in the Brunswick area earlier today, but while we were able to confirm that an incident with an aerial lift had occurred, the details are minimal. Worksafe has issued the following statement:

"WorkSafe is investigating after a 37 year old man died while painting inside a factory at Brunswick on Sunday. It is believed the contractor was using an elevated work platform to reach windows near the factory's roof at about 1pm when he struck a steel truss. The man died at the scene. The fatality brings the number of workplace deaths this year to four, which is one more than at the same time last year."
