Speed Limit restrictions

From 1 January 2007 virtually all goods vehicles over 3.5 tonnes GVW need speed limiters. Vans and light trucks are limited to 90kph (56 mph) while minibuses are limited to 100 kph (60 mph).

Specifically, those first registered between 1 October 2001 and 31 December 2004, have Euro 3 engines and are used on national operations in the UK are now covered by the speed limiter legislation introduced in January 2005.

Also, all trucks first registered between 1 October 2001 and 31 December 2004 with GVW’s of between 7.5 tonnes and 12 tonnes, must have their speed limiters recalibrated from 100 kph to 90 kph (60mph to 56mph) in order to comply with the legislation..

Additionally vans, trucks, minibus or coaches fitted with speed limiters are banned from the outside lane of a three or more lane motorway.
