Two Konecranes for Georgia

US port operator Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) has purchased two Konecranes Gottwald G HMK 6507 Model 6 mobile harbour cranes for its Ocean Terminal.

The 125 tonne cranes have a maximum radius of 51 metres and a hybrid drive which meets Tier 4F emission standards. They have also been purchased with an external power supply which makes use of local grid electricity to lower operating costs as well as reduce noise and emissions. The units are due to be commissioned over the next month or two.

Paul Harkness, GPA director of crane maintenance and repair, said: “We have been working with Konecranes for many years, and its STS cranes and rubber tired gantry cranes have always given us outstanding performance. This time, we felt mobile harbour cranes would offer the right flexibility for our needs, and it was natural to turn to Konecranes once again.”

Andreas Moeller, senior sales manager at Konecranes Port Solutions, added: “This order shows the power of Konecranes’ good reputation in mobile harbour cranes. We performed well in the Americas in 2019 as customers really appreciated our performance, reliability and innovative electric drive concepts, and we look forward to delivering more of the same this year.”

Prior to this order, the Ocean Terminal has only featured a ship to shore (STS) crane and has been predominately dedicated to breakbulk, heavy lift and containerised cargo.
