Unic teams up with Clow

Unic Cranes Europe is expanding its mini-crane operations with the appointment of the Clow Group of Glasgow as its hire and distribution partner for Scotland.

The two companies have formed a strategic alliance in order to extend the rental availability of its mini cranes to all areas of Scotland while reducing transport and delivery costs.

Clow has bought three mini cranes to kick off its rental fleet and will trade under the name Unic Cranes, Scotland.
Graeme Riley, CEO of Unic, said:

“With depots in the north and south of England, specialist transport agreements and a fleet of 50 hire cranes we have been able to provide competitive rates and high availability throughout England and Wales. But transport costs to the further reaches of Scotland have proved prohibitive.

“Clow Group is a major company, with extensive engineering and repair facilities and its own transport fleet. They have good contacts throughout Scotland and this alliance will be a major benefit for mini-crane users north of the border”

Clow Group director, Cameron Clow, said: “With our roots in the fabrication and installation of access equipment, we know the potential for mini-crane usage in confined work areas. There is a good synergy between our products and we expect to see our access and mini-crane divisions working together on the same projects.

“Our staff for this new venture are currently going through some intensive training at Unic’s HQ in all areas of the mini-crane business. We are aiming to present a united front across the UK with the same high standards of training, sales, technical and after-sales support.”

Clow was founded in 1913 as a manufacturer of ladders and access equipment and has expanded considerably with factories in Glasgow, Birmingham, London and Belfast. It produces a wide range of cradles, suspended platforms, bridges, gangways and specialist access solutions for the railway industry.
