New Grove GMK5250L for R&D Crane

The R&D Crane division of Canadian steel fabricator Cherubini has expanded its fleet with a new 250 tonne Grove GMK5250L All Terrain crane.

The purchase was driven by an increase in demand from R&D’s core business of bridge installations, tilt-up building panel construction and the installation of industrial equipment such as air conditioning units.

Sold and delivered by Manitowoc dealer Shawmut Equipment, the five axle crane has a seven section 70 metre main boom, topped by a 21 metre bi-fold swingaway extension that can be extended with additional inserts to 37 metres, for a maximum tip height of 110 metres and offers up to 50 degrees of offset. Overall length on the road is just under 15 metres, while the overall width is three metres. The GMK5250L’s first job involved erecting the Lake William Trail Bridge in Waverly, on the north side of Halifax.

General manager Aaron Harvey, said: “Due to increased demand in the market, coupled with many upcoming bridge erection jobs, the new crane was an essential purchase to continue with the work that we do. The decision to purchase the Grove GMK5250L comes down to our comfort with the Grove/Manitowoc product lines, our 25 year relationship with Shawmut Equipment and their professional team of technicians that provide the customer service and support we need.”

Dave Hawboldt of Shawmut, added: “When R&D Crane was looking to upgrade their Grove GMK5240, the Grove GMK5250L was a clear choice. With a 70 metre main boom, ease of transport, and latest technology, the machine is a perfect fit for them. Shawmut continues to enjoy a prosperous relationship with the Cherubini Group and R&D Crane. We are pleased to continue to support the company with parts, factory trained technicians and any other future equipment needs.”

R&D Crane is based alongside Cherubini's Metal Works in Dartmouth/Halifax, Nova Scotia, and runs a fleet of truck, All Terrain, industrial and crawler cranes from Grove, Manitowoc and National Crane. Cherubini manufactures bridges and a wide range of structural steelwork.
