Hydraulic Potain luffers for China

China Construction Seventh Engineering Division has added two Potain MCH 175 hydraulic luffing jib tower cranes - badged MCH 170 in China - to its fleet.

The MCH 175 has a maximum capacity of 10 tonnes, a maximum jib length of 55 metres and a jib tip capacity of 1.5 tonnes. It also features the company’s VVH hydraulic luffing jib system with a luffing speed from horizontal to 87 degrees in under two minutes. The company also claims that hydraulic luffing offers lower energy consumption than conventional cranes, allowing a smaller generator to be used.

The cranes went straight to work on two projects in Shenzhen, China. The first crane was configured with an under hook height of 130 metres and a jib length of 35 metres to work on a new residential housing project, while the second was configured with an 80 metre under hook height and a 35 metre jib to assist with the construction of a new fire station.

Chief engineer, Ma Guihong, said: “We selected Potain cranes because they are the top tower cranes in the industry, and we are fans of the MCH 175’s VVH hydraulic luffing system. The crane has a short out of service radius which makes it easy to work in tight spaces, such as city centre construction sites.”

A subsidiary of the state owned China State Construction Engineering Corporation, China Construction Seventh Engineering Division provides engineering and construction services for government housing and infrastructure projects.
