A man using a trailer lift to install Christmas lights in Tocina, to the north east of Seville, Spain, died after the upper boom suddenly dropped, allowing the platform to crash into the street on Friday.
The man, 53, apparently worked for the local municipality. He was rushed to hospital but died later from his injuries. It seems that the boom elevation cylinder or connection between risers and the boom suffered a structural failure. The local union has appealed to the labour inspectorate to investigate the incident and ascertain the cause of the failure.
