Bronto adds Backwatch systems

Backwatch Safety Products has teamed up with Bronto Skylift in the UK to develop a comprehensive camera, sensors and alarm installation that meets the new Transport for London’s ‘Direct Vision Standard’ that becomes enforceable in law from 1st March.

Some of the systems required to meet the new rules

The standard will apply to a Heavy Goods Vehicle with a gross of more than 12 tonnes, with the vehicle’s visibility measured with a star rating running from zero to five starts. This year will only require a one star rating, however this will jump to a three star minimum in 2024. Any vehicle with a zero star rating will require the addition of indirect vision aides/safety systems. This must include a nearside camera, proximity sensors and audible warnings. Failure to comply could result in a fine of up to £550.

With this in mind Bronto Skylift has installed safe systems on its new 70 metre S70XR platforms mounted on a Volvo FMX500 chassis. Backwatch is supplying and installing the systems. Bronto has added an additional multi camera recording system for these vehicles.

Their complete service included providing certificates for each vehicle including the photos required by TfL. Work was carried out at our site by friendly and professional fitters.”

Backwatch offers a wide range of safety equipment from dash cams to multi camera digital recording systems and radar proximity sensors, approved by FORS in conjunction with TfL and Crossrail.
