£8m investment for Star

UK rental company Star Platforms has taken delivery of 10 units of Dingli's new 66ft electric scissor lifts, along with 60 Rough Terrain boom and scissor lifts as part of an £8 million fleet investment for the year.

The Dingli JCPT2212DC electric narrow aisle slab and JCPT2223DC electric Rough Terrain scissor lifts both offer a working height of 22 metres and include automatic levelling jacks, four wheel steer and the ability to drive at full height.

The narrow - 1.25 metres overall width - JCPT2212DC has a 600kg maximum platform capacity, a 1.8 metre platform extension and 25 percent gradeability, from four AC direct wheel drive motors. Total weight of 12.3 tonnes.

The JCPT2223DC Rough Terrain scissor lift has a platform capacity of 750kg, a single 2.7 metre platform extension, four wheel drive and up to 30 percent gradeability. Fitted with 48 volt/630Ah batteries driving high efficiency AC motors, it is said to match the performance capabilities of the manufacturer’s diesel equivalent and be good for a full days work or more between charges. It also has the added benefit of quiet, emission free operation. Total weight is 13.4 tonnes.

Richard Miller, joint managing director of Star Platforms, said: “The move into the large scissor market is a big step for us and one that has been driven by the ageing fleet of big electric scissors in the UK currently. With buildings and warehouses increasingly growing in height, the addition of our new Dinglis will likely be the first of many as we look to become leaders in the 22 plus metre scissor lift market in the coming years.”

The company has also added 60 Niftylift, Skyjack and Dingli Rough Terrain boom and scissor lifts to its fleet with working heights from 10 to 28 metres. These include 12 Niftylift boom lifts, ranging from the 33ft HR12 4x4 to the 86ft HR28, as well as three 46ft SJ46AJs and three 63ft SJ63AJs boom lifts from Skyjack. To its scissor lift fleet the company has also added a large number of 26ft and 32ft Skyjack 6826RTs and 6832RTs, 10 40ft diesel and electric Dingli JCPT1418s and eight 50ft Skyjack SJ9250RTs.

Steve Simmons, joint managing director of Star Platforms, added: “The addition of our new Rough Terrain platforms have been specifically chosen for their ability to perform on demanding job sites and challenging ground conditions. Our customers will also be able to benefit from impressive platform basket capacities and the ability to drive at full or partial height.”

Launched in October 2014, Star Platforms was acquired in November by the Indian manufacturer and rental company Sudhir Power - see: Sudhir acquires Star Platforms. It runs a fleet of aerial work platforms from locations in Luton, Coalville, Sevenoaks, Reading, Thetford and more recently Bridgwater. The £8 million investment planned for 2021 is intended to take its fleet to more than 2,750 boom and scissor lifts.
