70m Bronto for NASA

US space agency NASA has taken delivery of a 70 metre Bronto Skylift S230XDT truck mounted lift for its Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Goldstone, California. The machine, Nasa's second such unit, was supplied by local distributor Excel High Reach.

The S230XDT offers a working height of 70 metres, an outreach of 35 metres and a platform capacity of 680kg. Features include power to the platform, a wireless intercom system, continuous 360 degree slew, and fully variable outrigger set up. In order to comply with strict axle load restrictions in the state of California the S230XDT has been mounted on a Mack chassis.

The new unit will be used to help inspect and maintain the numerous antennas, some of which measure up to 70 metres in diameter, at the facility’s 177 acre site.
