Crane strike deferred

350 employees at Liebherr Container Cranes in Killarney have deferred a strike that was planned for this week as part of a dispute over pensions, sick pay and other issues.

Industrial action was deferred for a week last night after the union and the company agreed to enter talks on the matter under the auspices of the Labour Relations Commission.

The main bone of contention is the company’s move to close its defined-benefit pension scheme to all new employees.

Liebherr Killarney employs 450 staff in total.
