Link-Belt CEO becomes a Sumitomo VP
Link-Belt chief executive Melvin Porter has been appointed as a vice president of Japanese parent company, Sumitomo Heavy Industries. He is the only executive from a United States subsidiary on that is also a member of the parent company’s management team.

Founded in 1888, Sumitomo has owned Link-Belt since June 1989, a $6.6 billion business Sumitomo runs five other subsidiaries in the United States:- Sumitomo (SHI) Demag Plastics Machinery North America in Georgia, Sumitomo (SHI) Cryogenics of America in Chicago, Sumitomo Machinery of Virginia - power transmission components. LBX in Lexington Kentucky- servicing construction equipment and Sumitomo SHI FW Energy North America in New Jersey.
Porter said: “Being named to the executive team at SHI says more about our company and our product then it does about me. I’m extremely honoured to hold this position and look forward to the continued development of not just our mobile crane strategy, but the complete umbrella of offerings provided by Sumitomo Heavy Industries.”
