Access incident- London

Two men were seriously injured last week after steelwork collapsed onto scaffolding and a boom lift at the site of Hammersmith town hall, London, UK, which is being renovated.

The incident occurred on Wednesday evening, reports are not as clear as we would like, but it seems that the steelwork came down onto some façade scaffold and struck a boom lift from which two steel erectors from TMT Steel were working. Reports claim that the two were thrown from the platform, and that one was restrained with his harness and lanyard while the other was not. We have not been able to categorically confirm this report.

As of Thursday night, both men remained in hospital, but according to police their injuries were no longer life threatening.
The London ambulance service said: “An investigation has been launched after two men were injured after scaffolding attached to
Hammersmith town hall collapsed late on Wednesday afternoon."

Hammersmith and Fulham Council confirmed that the men were working on the new Civic Campus construction site. We will update this item when we have more information, in the meantime the Health & Safety Executive is investigating.
