Crane strike ends

The crane operators strike in South Korea has ended as the government stepped in over the weekend after 350 operators staged an indefinite sit-in on 110 tower cranes on Friday.

The union and the Labor Ministry have said that they had reached a tentative agreement last night with the Korea Tower Crane Cooperative, a group for tower crane business owners.

The deal will enforce a 44-hour workweek starting next May, provide a paid day-off for four of the nine public holidays and give four-day summer holidays for any workers who are on the payroll for more than three months.

No mention has yet been made of the demands for the improvement in safety regulations.
