Two men flipped from their platform

Two men working from the platform of a 17 metre truck mounted boom lift were catapulted out of the basket after the knuckle of their articulated boom was clipped by a passing truck.

The accident occurred in Bootham road, York, (UK) this morning. The men were using a vehicle mounted Nifty lift 170 which was parked on the pavement, the lower boom/riser was clearly not fully elevated though and was protruding into the street.

The passing truck clipped the arm swinging the superstructure around and flipping the two men out of the platform. Neither appears to have been wearing a harness.

The lift itself suffered little apparent damage and was fully stable after the incident. One of the men involved worked for Birch Construciton, which owned the lift, whiile the other was a sub contractor. They were carry out remedial work to brickwork after the removal of a tied-in scaffold.
