New JLG SkyTrak 8042

JLG has introduced a redesigned and upgraded version of its 42ft/8,000lbs (12.9m/3,600kg) SkyTrak 8042 telehandler. It is the latest model of the upgrade programme that kicked off with the 6034 and 6042 models last year.

The new generation 8042 includes a lighter weight optimised boom and chassis frame design, reducing the overall weight from 27,100lb (12,242kg) to 21,200lb (9,600kg) enabling two units to be carried on a single flatbed trailer.

Power is provided by a Deutz diesel which does not require Diesel Exhaust Fluid reducing maintenance as does a 30 percent reduction in hydraulic hoses and connections.

Other improvements include a hydrostatic transmission allowing the operator telescope at full speed without shifting into neutral, an advanced control system and electric over hydraulic joystick providing easier operation and greater inching control. A load stability indicator with colour coded visuals is optional along with seatbelt engagement and operator presence technology.

An improved cab features a larger LCD display with single page load chart displays. An enclosed cab includes an air conditioning option. Options include: Multi-reverse camera system with left, right and rear views with day or night vision, an obstacle sensing system when driving in reverse, a white noise back-up alarm, and remote diagnostics/telematics package through JLG’s ClearSky Smart Fleet system.

The maximum forward reach and lift capacities remain the same at 29.5ft(9m) with 1,600lb (725kg), with faster boom functions and auxiliary hydraulic connections on the side of the boom nose for quick changes of the wide range of attachments including a variety of carriages, forks, buckets, hooks and truss jibs.

Senior product manager John Boehme said: “JLG redeveloped this model from the ground up with enhanced technology and functionality to meet the needs of today’s job sites and zero sacrifices. We listened closely to our customers’ most requested features and capabilities to improve the efficiency and serviceability of the 8042, without any compromises. This model is designed to increase productivity and boost overall job performance in pick and place applications, such as handling, loading and unloading bulk materials on demanding residential, commercial, urban and suburban job sites.
