12 self-erecting mobiles for Wittrock & Ulferts

German crane and access rental group Wittrock & Ulfertshas ordered nine Liebherr MK 88-4.1 and three Liebherr MK 140-5.1 self-erecting mobile tower cranes

The four axle MK 88-4.1 has a maximum capacity of eight tonnes, and can handle 2.2 tonnes at its maximum radius of 45 metres with an under hook height of 30.2 metres. The crane can also operate with the jib luffed at 15, 30 or 45 degrees above horizontal for a maximum under hook height of 59.1 metres with a capacity of 1,850kg. Features include single person set up and operation with remote controls.

The five axle MK 140 can take its eight tonne maximum capacity to a radius of 12 metres and a hook height of 36 metres. With the jib in ‘trolley’ mode, the crane has a jib tip capacity of 1,900kg at 58.5 metres radius and a hook height of just under 40 metres. It can also be used in luffing mode with a range from 20 to 70 degrees to achieve a maximum hook height of 94.4 metres or a maximum radius of 65 metres with a 1,000kg capacity.

This is the largest single order for Liebherr mobile self-erector tower cranes ever placed in Germany, deilveries will get underway in October and should be completed by July next year.

Joint managing director Marcus Wittrock said: “We have been running this type of crane since 2003 and our customers expects us to offer the full product range."
Fellow MD Oliver Herrmann added: "The market for MK cranes has developed quite positively for us in recent years. In the meantime, these are increasingly sought after machines, which is why we are not only replacing, but also expanding the fleet."

The group includes Herrmann & Wittrock, Ulferts, Titschkus & Wittrock, and Ulferts & Wittrock - can trace its origins back to 1909 when Hermann Titschkus established a haulage company. Crane rental began in 1970 with Mennen & Wittrock, followed by the founding of Ulferts in 1972 and Ulferts & Wittrock in 1989. Over the years, the group has expanded through startups and takeovers.

The companies run a fleet of 200 mobile cranes up to 700 tonnes and crawlers up to 650 tonnes as well as forklifts and aerial work platforms.
