The very first Meada MK3053-C spider crane to be delivered in Europe has completed its first lift, the crane was delivered to UK rental company Hird, which supplied to for a job in West Yorkshire.
The 2.8 tonne Maeda MK3053-C spider crane features a five section main boom with a three section telescopic jib for a maximum tip height of 16.95 metres at which point it can handle 50kg. It can also take it out to the maximum radius of 14.5 metres.
The MK3053C's first paid lift
The first job for the new spider crane was to lift steel frame elements, weighing 150kg, to support an LED screen above an entrance to a large arena at a height of 12 metres. The crane lifted the screen over a safety rail and onto a mezzanine deck at the 13,000 seat arena.

The crane's compact dimensions 3.2 metres long by 780mm wide, with an overall height of 1.95 metres, and its reach, made it an ideal machine for the job, while its non-marking tracks avoided leaving black scuff marks behind.

Managing director Phil Hird said: “The Maeda MK3053C is a game changer for us. It gives us new capabilities that extends the range of lifts we can carry out. It proved ideal for the lifting challenges at the First Direct Arena. The Maeda MK3053CB is a step forward for us and it is good to know that we are the first crane rental company in the world to be able to offer it.”
Lifting to 12 metres
Based in Hull, Hird also runs depots in Doncaster and Redhill, Surrey. It is the UK distributor for Valla pick & carry cranes, Oil & Steel platforms, Locatelli Cranes, Righetti cladding lifters and Winlet glazing robots, while its rental fleet includes, of aerial lifts, glass handling equipment, pick & carry and spider cranes as well as a training services division.
