First crawler for steel erector

UK based steel erector - Steel Work Construction (SWC) has taken delivery of its first crawler crane, a Liebherr LTR 1100.

The telescopic crane has a 52 metre main boom topped by a 10.6 to 18.9 metre bi-fold swingaway extension which can offset by up to 40 degrees. It features a Tier 4 compliant diesel and Liebherr's Liccon 2 operating system, which allows the operator to view a load chart, select different configurations, and adjust the controls to suit the task at hand. The crane is also equipped with Bluetooth remote controls.

The crane's first job was at the Shotton Paper Mill expansion and re development in Deeside, North Wales. Initially positioned in the steel holding yard, the LTR loaded steel in and out moved columns weighing up to eight tonnes thanks to its pick & carry ability.

The pick and carry capabilities enable the crawler crane to work where two mobile cranes normally would. Furthermore, its versatility allows us to venture into different sectors, expanding our scope. We are looking forward to adding further Liebherr crawlers and mobile cranes to the fleet this year.”

Based in Preston, Lancashire Steel Work Construction runs a fleet of 12 All Terrains, plus this new telecrawler. It offers a range of services from steel erection, onsite fabrication, welding and crane and equipment rental throughout the UK.
