This year’s Crane Safety conference is underway today at the IMechE headquarters near Buckingham Palace in St James, London.
This year’s event has attracted a large number of delegates, thanks perhaps to being run alongside the Sustainable and decarbonised Construction, with shared badges, allowing delegates to move freely between the two.
The conference is an annual event held in late September or early October.
Working in and managing high wind conditions has been a core topic so far this morning along with a detailed looks at a couple of major crane accidents by Jamie Davies, a principal inspector, at the Health & Safety Executive.
later in the morning Joseph France, head data scientist, Metswift show how advanced weather forecasting techniques using AI, with real on site evidence and statistics, to dramically reduce the number of days when planned lifts are called off due to high winds and major storms.
The list of speakers for this afternoon include:
Sean Robinson, principal engineer, HSB Engineering Insurance
Craig Hook, head of lifting, Sir Robert McAlpine
David Hall, lifting manager, Align JV
Tom Pawson, chief engineer, Costain
And Amy Law of MachineMax who will discuss how to use data to help manage heavy equipment fleets by understanding the workflows that impact sustainability metrics for each task.
