More Liebherr’s for MSG Krandienst

German crane rental company MSG Krandienst has taken delivery of a 300 tonne Liebherr LTM 1300-6.3 which will soon be followed by its third 700 tonne LTM 1650-8.1 in February 2025.

The six axle LTM 1300-6.3 features an eight section, 90 metre main boom topped by an 11.5 to 20 metre bi-fold swingaway extension, to which two seven metre inserts can be added between the boom nose and swingaway for a tip height of 121 metres. Alternatively, a 43 metre lattice extension takes the tip height to 126 metres.
The handover

The eight axle LTM 1650-8.1 features a basic four section 54 metre boom which converts to a six section 80 metre boom when required. A 90 metre luffing jib is also available.

MSG managing director Björn Jatz said: "The 90 metre telescopic boom, which can be carried on the road with an axle load of 12 tonnes and is a unique feature of the crane in its class, was the decisive factor for us in purchasing it."

"This completes our Liebherr family in the large crane sector with the LTM 1750-9.1, the LTM 1450-8.1 and soon three machines of the LTM 1650-8.1. One major advantage is that various lattice sections from these cranes can also be used on our new LTM 1300-6.3."
An LTM 1650-8.1 lifting a wind turbine in the Black Forest

MSG Krandienst recently used one of its LTM 1650-8.1 cranes to replace components for an Enercon E-66 wind turbine in the Black Forest, north of Freiburg. The crane lifted the entire blade assembly down in a two hook operation and reinstalled it after replacing the generator, completing the task within a day.

MSG was established in 1994 and entered the crane rental market in 2002. Today it employs around 120 staff working from three locations - the headquarters in Kehl, near Baden Baden, plus a branch near Freiburg both of which are in the south west of Germany. It also has a satellite depot in Strasbourg, France, allowing the company to cover the whole border area in the Black Forest and Alsace regions. The crane fleet includes All Terrains from 40 to 800 tonnes, four and six axle mobile self-erecting tower cranes and knuckle boom loader cranes.
