Potain launched its largest flat top tower crane so far at Bauma China this week, in the form of the new 80 tonne MCT 2205.
The new crane is already in production at Manitowoc’s plant in Zhangjiagang, China, with the first eight units sold to Abu Dhabi international tower crane group NFT.
The new crane can be rigged with an 80 metre jib and free standing heights up to 99 metres depending on the tower/mast used - either the R99A or R910A. The jib tip capacity at 80 metres is 23.6 tonnes, the jib can also be equipped with an extender for an 85 metre jib tip.
The maximum capacity is available at five to 26.3 metres with full jib installed, or 30.5 metres on a 45 or 50 metre jib. Alternatively, 72.9 tonnes can be handled at the jib tip of a four section, 30 metre jib. The crane is fitted with Potain’s V140S Vision Cab.
A choice of 12 or 16 tonne counterweights are available with counter jibs of 25.2 or 20.2 metres, with slabs in steel or concrete. The performance is all to FEM standards.
A new high speed high powered Optima winch/hoist with just over 1,000 metres of rope provides line speed of up to 94 metres a minute allowing it to handle the maximum 80 tonne capacity at a hook speed of up to 12 metres a minute.
When it comes to shipping it takes 16 or 18 containers, depending on spec and the inclusion of the Slider climbing mechanism or not.
All eight of the NFT units will be deployed on the Trojena Ski Station being built in Saudi Arabia. The first unit has already been shipped and will be erected with a hook height of 94 metres.
