Truck clips platform

A man working from the truck mounted platform /bucket truck was seriously injured last week after the lift was struck by a passing truck, in Goffstown, New Hampshire – west of Manchester/south from Concord.

The incident occurred at around 8:00 on December 19th, the man was working on traffic lights suspended over the road, he had a couple of spotters in the street below directing the traffic, however it is thought that the early morning glare from the sun may have blinded the truck driver, causing him to strike the boom.

The collision not only ripped of the fibreglass bucket/platform from the machine - an Altec owned and operated by East Coast Signals - sending it to the ground, but also brought down a telegraph pole, probably from the recoiling boom/platform.

The fact that the man was wearing a harness with attached lanyard may well have saved his life. He sustained a serious head injury but is alive and coherent. An Osha investigator was reported to have visited the scene.

The truck belongs to the HP Hood dairy company, the driver was tested and found to be clear and was assisting the investigator with determining exactly what happened.
