German rental company Krandienst Schulz has taken delivery of 450 tonne Liebherr LTM 1450-8.1 All Terrain crane which has already been put to work dismantling tower cranes at a waste to energy plant construction site in Hamburg.
The eight axle LTM 1450-8.1 features a seven section 85 metre main boom, VarioBallast variable counterweight and VarioBase outrigger set up and monitoring. The single engine crane features an Eco mode fuel economy setting and can be equipped with a wide range of lattice extensions including fixed pinned extensions that can be extended in seven metre increments to 56 metres, or employed as a cable suspended 56 metre fixed offset jib, and an 84 metre luffing jib which can be installed on 47.8 metres of main boom for a 136 metre maximum tip height with 3.7 tonnes capacity.

The new workshops
Markus Solms of Krandienst sales said: "For me, our new LTM 1450-8.1 truly is a fast erecting crane. The onboard telescopic boom with a length of 85 metres means the setup and deployment times are very short, even for the assembly of tall construction cranes. In around three hours, we were ready to go again for the dismantling of the next crane."
Krandienst owner Günter Sichward added: "We have now standardised on Liebherr cranes, so that our workshop fitters only have to be trained for one manufacturer, and our drivers are able to switch easily from one crane to another. On the other hand, we like to have several cranes of the same type in use in order to simplify approval procedures or to be able to replace a spare part immediately if necessary. Generally speaking, however, the parts needed from Ehingen are there the next day. As are the fitters from Liebherr, if needed, even during the night.”
