Euro 5 tax breaks confirmed

The Department for Transport has detailed tax breaks for the early uptake of Euro 5 emission standards. The aim is encourage operators to buy trucks at the more environmentally-friendly Euro 5 standard before it becomes mandatory on 1 October 2009.

The DfT looks set to extend the Reduced Pollution Certificate scheme so that hauliers and operators first registering a Euro 5 vehicle before that date can claim a discount of up to £500 a year on Vehicle Excise Duty, if the vehicle has the full onboard diagnostic systems and torque control systems to check and control NOX emissions.
