LG 1700 FOR A.W. Leil

A.W. Leil Cranes & Equipment has taken delivery of a 750 tonne Liebherr LG1750-SX truck mounted lattice boomed crane.
The new crane arrives

The company says the new crane is aimed at meeting the heavy lift demands of Atlantic Canada's clean energy transition, including the installation of the next generation wind turbines and modular energy systems.

The crane can lift turbine components weighing up to 127 tonnes to heights of up to 175 metres. And when it comes to road travel it has a total weight of 96 tonnes or 12 tonnes an axle or just 48 tonnes with its outriggers removed. The eight axle carrier requires a three metre wide footprint when moving between turbines, compared to the typical 10 to 12 metre wide crawler cranes, reducing road width requirements for new project.

A.W. Leil president Ryan Long said: “A.W. Leil has deep roots in Atlantic Canada, and we’ve always taken pride in supporting the region’s growth — including a strong track record on renewable energy projects. Governments across Atlantic Canada are ramping up investments in renewable energy, with projects in onshore and offshore wind, hydrogen, alternative fuels, and energy storage now advancing across the region. This latest investment brings world class lifting power to our doorstep. It means developers can think bigger than ever before, knowing that the capability to support their most ambitious projects now exists right here at home.”

“This crane is an investment in our team and it’s a team that I’m very proud to be part of. We have a very skilled and passionate group, which is a primary reason why we were confident in making this investment. This is about more than just lifting equipment — it’s about lifting the region’s potential, we’re ready for what’s next.”

Founded in 1956, A.W. Leil Cranes & Equipment was acquired by SeaFort Capital in 2012, and now operates from four locations in Nova Scotia and one in New Brunswick.
