Fatal unloading incident

A man died yesterday in the Berea area of Durban, South Africa, while he was unloading a boom lift outside the Atrium shopping mall on Peter Mokaba Ridge in Berea.

It seems that the man, said to be in his 30s, had pulled up outside the front of the mall and was in the process of driving the lift off of a tilt-back truck bed, using the winch, when one of the boom lift’s wheels slipped over the edge of the bed, causing it to overturn. The fall threw the man from the platform, where he sustained serious injuries that proved fatal. We understand that he was declared dead at the scene.
This is the only photograph we have received so far and it is quite poor

The incident is now subject to a police investigation. It does, though, look like a classic unloading incident. We will update as we learn more.
