Crane accidents

Accident One

Boom truck boom comes down across street in Fort Lauderdale – Outriggers again?

A National truck mounted crane about with around 30 metres of boom tipped over at a construction site behind the Galleria mall in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Tuesday afternoon. The crane driver was pulled from the cab with serious injuries.

The crane was being used to perform some roof repairs when it tipped, the boom came down across a four lane street, but there were no reports of any damage or injuries to others.

The outriggers on one side of the crane were not extended, and from the way the crane is lying, it looks as though there were only partially extended on the side it tipped.

Accident two

Crane causes chaos in San Luis Obispo last Wednesday.
Not the cranes fault this one, and details are sketchy. It happened on Wednesday in San Luis Obispo, California. It seems that the Rough Terrain crane had just been picked up and left the site where it had been working when the trucks brakes failed, causing it to career down the street felling trees and smashing a fire hydrant.

A fire hydrant was one of the casualties

One of the palm trees felled by the runaway truck landed on the driver of the crane trapping him. Thankfully a passing football team was able to come to his rescue and lift the weight of the tree from him.
