Another outrigger tip

A large Rough Terrain crane installing concrete sound barriers alongside Shady Grove road in Derwood north of Washington DC, caused the road to be closed yesterday, after it toppled over.

The crane was lifting a large concrete panel into place on the barrier, when it went over, thankfully no one was hurt and the damage was restricted to the panel being lifted and the crane itself.

The fallen crane - a Grove RT

Looking at footage we have been sent form the scene it looks as though the front outrigger beam facing the load was not extended and this is almost certain to have been the cause of the tip over.

Oddly the rear outrigger beams were extended on both sides as was the other front beam. The only other possible explanation is the beam was/is out but that it punched through the ground which is why it does not look as though it was extended.
