Death Wish 11

Another reader in the UK has sent in a case of someone using unsafe methods of working above ground. This case is worse than most in that the employer was visited by a powered access rental company on Monday and was told that all its access platform requirements had been fulfilled.

The company that has its access equipment requirements sorted

Later that day as he was passing by the site, on his return to the depot, the salesman spotted an unusual and highly dangerous access solution in use! The man working at height has his hard hat on, his boots a harness of some sort, not that it is attached to anything, gloves and even his bright yellow vest. BUT he is then standing on three planks of wood placed onto the forks of a telehandler!

A closer look at this state of the art solution

Underneath him a colleague is stood around without a hard hat.

This is the type of company that the HSE ought to be ‘throwing the book at’, hopefully a local inspector will recognise the location and take action. The access industry still has a lot to do, ‘The surface has so far only been scratched’.
