Tower crane drops its load
A luffing jib tower crane working on a building in York road, Waterloo, London dropped its load this morning onto a bus stop in the street below.

The crane
The load, an air conditioning unit, dropped around 30 metres striking a young woman waiting for the bus. The woman, believed to be in her mid-20s was taken to hospital suffering from serious injuries.

The dropped load
A police spokesman later said: "We were called this morning at 9.10am to an incident at York Road, SE1, to a report of a woman who was seriously injured by an item falling from above. She is in hospital receiving treatment."
The Health and Safety Executive are investigating. The accident occurred as a group of residents and others were marking the second anniversary of the Battersea tower crane accident just a mile or two away.
