Southern Cranes and Access expands

West Sussex-based Southern Cranes and Access continues to expand, acquiring the cranes from two local crane companies, as well as adding to its varied fleet.

Last summer it acquired Portsmouth Crane Hire, a small crane hire operation in the Portsmouth/Southampton area and late last year acquired the crane operation of J Thomas (Southern) Ltd based in Small Dole, West Sussex.

“As well as adding a 40 tonne, Liebherr LTM1040, we have taken on Portsmouth Crane Hire’s customer base which allows us to extend our operations well into Hampshire,” said Southern Cranes managing director Mike Sadler. “Cranes from J Thomas ranged from a 20 to 55 tonnes.”

Southern Cranes and Access has also added six new Tadano Faun cranes to its fleet over the past few months including two 90 tonne ATF90G and four 40 tonne AFT 40 Tadano Faun. The company says it also has a 200 tonne Demag on order for delivery at the end of 2009. This will be the second Terex Demag 200 tonner in the fleet.
