Rigger fatality
A 52 year old mine worker helping dismantle a crane in preparation for the onset of tropical Cyclone Dominic was killed this morning after being struck by the rigging.
The accident occurred at the lay-down area of the joint Fortescue Metals Group-McConnell Dowell site at Anderson Point, Port Hedland, Western Australia.
Reports say that the man was struck by a swinging hook block and that he was then pinned under some heavy steel slings.
Officers from Worksafe WA are travelling to Port Hedland to investigate and prepare a report for the coroner.
