Palfinger expands in the US

Loader crane and aerial lift company, Palfinger has acquired New Jersey based Automated Waste Equipment in the USA, as part of its strategy to expand its presence in North America.

Automated Waste Equipment (AWE) manufactures container handling systems, hook lifts and waste handling cranes under the American Roll-Off, Hook-all Hooklifts, and American Hawk Bulk Waste Crane brands. it is also the second largest manufacturer of cable hoists in the US.

Herbert Ortner, chief executive of Palfinger, said:“For us this acquisition is a further step in our strategy pursued in the US, namely to strengthen local production and gain additional market share. It gives us access to a product range that is in line with the needs of American customers in this segment.”

In the US, cable hoists are more common than the hook lifts that are popular in Europe, AWE produces and distributes both systems. The company has 40 employees and had revenues of around $13 million in 2008.
