Four died and three were injured in the collapse
On Wednesday evening, a 10 tonne gantry crane working on the Shanghai-Beijing express rail project site in Jiading District collapsed onto another crane, killing four workers who were sheltering from heavy rain in the operator's compartment. Three others were injured.
An official with the local construction quality watchdog said that strong winds may have played a part after an emergency meeting at the construction site soon after the accident.
Workers on the site said most of the victims came from Jiangsu Province.
Initial construction for the project started in December and is scheduled to finish by the end of 2010.
