Two more AT incidents

Readers have reported two more mobile crane incidents last week, both involving four-axle All Terrain cranes, in Norway and one in Germany.

In the most recent incident, a four-axle All Terrain crane owned by Sarens, occurred Monday morning on a building site in Norheimstølen, Karmøy, Norway.

The crane appears to have been set up with one outrigger near to a verge, with the boom raised to a fully elevated position with most of the boom and counterweight acting on the one rear outrigger. This caused the outrigger to sink, causing the crane to overturn backwards. It is not clear whether outrigger mats where being used or not. No one was injured in the incident.

The crane to overturn backwards after one of its outriggers sank into the ground

The second incident occurred last Wednesday when a crane was travelling to a job in Schwalefeld, Germany. Apparently the four-axle Terex All Terrain crane, owned by rental company Blüggel, was driving down a narrow road towards a construction site when it strayed onto the soft verge, which gave way under the wheels, causing the crane to overturn onto its side. The driver escaped unhurt and the crane was later recovered by two, three-axle cranes owned by Autokran Wiemann.
