Crane overturn in Sweden
A five axle crane overturned on a job site in Uppsala, Sweden on Thursday.
The crane a five axle Liebherr from the Estonian rental company Ehitustehnika/Viking Cranes was in the process of being moved on Thursday evening when the incident occurred.
The experienced operator had the outrigger jacks down, but not extended he then raised the boom, with one section telescoped to full elevation and slewed over the side with full counterweight in place. Not surprisingly it tipped over backwards.

We understand that the operator was not injured in the incident. We will update if and when we learn more.

Ah, the lessons learned by taking shortcuts in a procedure. It seldom fails that we learn from trying to cut corners. Last Friday as I was to fell a dead oak tree I did not paint my cutting lines on the trunk and set only one pull line to direct it’s fall. Sure enough it went toward the customer’s home but did not damage it. The short cuts taken caused us more time than usual to place a tractor bucket under the trunk while I cut in sections. This month we have done nine jobs and made three mistakes; one with equipment one with a pole saw and this one more job time. Safety meetings definitely produce results and save accidents.

Who does that?! Is this the sort of things we can expect to do once we're experienced? "yeah I'll just take that shortcut it' b fine I am after all an experienced oper-aaAAAH!"
