Tadano City for Richi

Swiss Crane rental and heavy transport company Richi has taken delivery of its first 45 tonne Tadano AC 3.045-1 City.

The new purchase is to add to and possible replace its existing Demag AC40 City type All Terrain cranes.

The new model was ordered with the 6x4x6 drivetrain. The three axle crane features a 31.2 metre main boom plus a 7.1 to 13 metre swingaway extension, taking the maximum tip height to more than 45 metres. The crane also comes with Tadano’s Flex Base variable outrigger set-up, with the crane control system monitoring actual beam extension and slew position to calculate the optimum load chart for the configuration.

Florian Färber, who leads the crane and transport division said: “Its extremely compact design makes it extraordinarily manoeuvrable, and that’s exactly what’s needed for Switzerland, where space is often very tight, the rear axle steering also helps in such situations. On top of that, its latest generation engine and particulate filter, meets our most stringent emission requirements. But when it comes to lifting its ability to telescope heavy loads is critical, when working in confined spaces such as indoors. The Flex Base outrigger system with asymmetrical configurations also helps."

Family owned Richi was originally set up in 1924 by Johann Richi to run a small gravel pit, he promoted the business as a Gravel supplier and soon needed transport to deliver his product. Starting with a horse and cart, he acquired his first vehicle, a Berna truck, in 1929 and by the time it was taken out of service in 1964 it had 2 million kilometres on the clock.

An excavating and earthmoving service were added in the mid-1960s as they sought to fill the open gravel pits with excavated material, while the first road going cranes came in 1978, a 45 tonne Grove TMS 475 truck crane and an 18 tonne Grove TMS 180 on an American chassis.

Today the crane fleet includes mobile self erecting tower cranes, big articulated loader cranes, and All Terrains up to a six axle 350 tonner.

Aghhh absolutley correct Red, completely forgot about the TD model - no superstructure cab. Also explains the US carrier when the 475 as on the UK built chassis. Nice one many thanks

Very good story.

I'm not one to nit pick. But the small Grove crane is a TD 180, not a TMS 180.

Keep up the good work.
