Telehandlers assist charity run
UK based rental company Hewden has supplied 50 CAT telehandlers to support the Deloitte Ride Across Britain charity bike event.
Running over nine days from the 12th to the 20th June, the event, backed by rowing champion and double Olympic gold medalist James Cracknell, saw over 550 cyclists ride from John O’Groats in Scotland to Lands End in Cornwall, raising over £315,000 for Paralympic-GB.

Using its local depot network, Hewden was able to supply 10 telehandlers to each strategically-placed base camp, located in John O’Groats, Kyle of Sutherland, Loch Linnhe, East Renfrewshire, Ullswater, Manchester, Ludlow, Cheddar, Launceston and Lands End.
At the end of each day cyclists arrived at a base camp where they showered and enjoyed some well-earned rest. It was at these camps that the telehandlers were used to release any vehicles that had become stuck in the muddy ground, unload and move tent pallets and supplies from delivery trucks.

Adrian Cole of base camp advance operations, said: “The Hewden telehandlers were the Swiss Army knife of the campsite and a very necessary and valuable on site tool, literally doing everything from lifting and shifting to packing and unloading”
“They were incredibly useful during the nine-day event, making sure that everything went smoothly behind the scenes so that the cyclists could arrive at a fully operational base camp at the end of each grueling day. Having them at our disposal meant that any problems could be rectified quickly and the camps set up without delay.”
